What to Bring

There is not a definitive answer about what to bring, but here is a suggested list with perhaps the minimum necessary for your trek. You can buy or rent everything you need in Kathmandu and Pokhara, from clothing to sleeping bags, tents, and other equipment. It is hard to find large shoe sizes. Once you choose your trekking destination, figure out what you might need for your particular trek. You can store extra stuff at your hotel in Kathmandu or Pokhara.

Walking Equipment
  • good hiking boots/good socks
  • long/short trousers
  • shirt/t-shirt
  • light jumper/sweater
  • UV protection sunglasses
  • hat/gloves
  • waterproof jacket/pancho
  • water bottle
  • walking stick(s)
  • day pack/small ruck sack
  • down jacket (if trekking over 4,000 meters)
  • windproof trousers/gaiters (if trekking over 4,000 meters)

Other Equipment
  • larger backpack
  • personal medication/first aid kit
  • toiletries/sanitary items for women
  • sunscreen/lip balm
  • penknife
  • flashlight(torch) and batteries
  • sleeping bag
  • camera/film/memory cards/batteries
  • flip flops/thongs
  • binoculars
