Ama Dablam Expedition

Pyramid shaped Mount Amadablam (6812m.) one of the most stunning peaks in the Himalaya and one of the most impressive mountains in the world, located to the south of Everest and Lhotse is characterized by vertical walls and sharp exposed ridges with the beauty in the class of Matterhorn. It stands above Thayangboche monastery, another pearl of beauty due to combination of its setting and architecture, on the way to Everest Base Camp. Ama Dablam, The Matternhorn of Himalayas, leaves a lasting impression on many as it is perhaps the most stunning mountain along the popular trekking route to Everest Base Camp. However, the expedition demands good skills of rock climbing, ice climbing, sufficient experience of high altitude and technical competency.

Ama Dablam is the third most popular Himalayan peak for permitted expeditions. The most popular route by far is the Southwest Ridge. The climb is typically done with three camps along the ridge with camp 3 just below and to the right of the hanging glacier, the Dablam, so that any ice that calves off the glacier typically goes away from the camp. A climbing permit and a liaison officer are required when attempting Ama Dablam, however there are no sure rules as 2006 avalanche proved otherwise killing 6 climbers. As with Mt. Everest, the best climbing months are April-May in spring season and September-October in autumn season. In addition to a standard expedition, Trek With Shiva offers two special Ama Dablam expeditions combined with the trek to Everest Base Camp or combined with the Island Peak climb. The trek to Everest Base camp extends the program by 5 days but this is a very nice way to acclimatize for the climb and to pay homage to the King of the Himalayas to experience the classic Everest view from Kallapather.

Combining Ama Dablam expedition with Island Peak climb extends the program by 7 days but this is a very nice way to acclimatize for the climb and to pay homage to the King of the Himalayas to experience the classic Everest massif view from the summit of Island Peak, which in itself is a nice visual and albeit easy but pleasant climbing experience.
